Information came from Mr. Horace Worley after article ran in OPP News.

From Mr. Bill Knotts: From 1900 Census of Rose Hill area of Covington County, Al. Page 270A, Nancy was

age 61, born Nov. 1838. Married 41 years, mother of 13 children, with 7 alive.

2S.  Grey Jerkins Worley

 [Odom.ged]

Served in Company 'B' of the 18th Alabama Regiment.

[NewGeorgia.FTW]

 G. J. Worley was a Pvt.  The Sons of Confederate Vetrans (SVC) honored Pvt. Worleu with a Memorial

Service at the Odom Cemetery in Antioch.  The SVC is an organization of people that can trace their

ancestory to a member of the Confederate Armies of the War Between the States.  Their purpose is to

preserve the memories and symbols of the old Confederacy. This info was obtained from the ODOM

NEWSLETTER dated July 1977.

2S.  Gray Jerkins Worley

Grey and his wife had three children at the time he had to go to war. Before he went he closed and sealed the

doors of their little house andmoved furniture in front of the doors, leaving only one entrance. Therest of the

family's protection depended on the "home guard". Each man onthe guard had so much territory to patrol,

mainly looking for those menwho refused to fight and for deserters.

Grey was captured and held prisoner with several hundred other menin Mobile. The conditions at the

prison are what Grandma especiallyremembers him describing. Each man was alloted a pound of meat a day,

orrather, a pound of anything. Sometimes the ration might be apound of bonewith a few mouthfulls of meat

and gristle on it. He said that when theydid get any meat it was a great treat and was eaten raw "like it

wassonething good".

He told how thin and ill the prisoners were, saying that thebreastbones of some of them stood o;ut and

were no wider than a thumb'swidth. He was held for two years and twelve days and the the gates of theprison

were opened and they all were allowed to walk out with no food, clothing or money. They had to make their

way home as best they could.

After the war there was a lot of resentment because whole familiesof northerners moved south. The

northerners got their "pensions" (?!)sooner than the southerners did and there was conflict about this.

Therewere many little taverns around where serious fights were due to thenortherners having money to

spend od whiskey wher o;ther people weredestitute and did not have the bare necessities of life.

Grandma's Grandpa Worley died when she was twelve years old.

Patsy Baldwin said that the above was one of the last conversationswith Grandma Baldwin.

3.  George W. Odom

 [Odom.ged]

Enlisted into Company 'B' of the 18th Regiment of the Alabama Volunteers, called the "Covington Hunters"

on July 26, 1861 in Andalusia AL.

Killed during the Battle of Shiloh Apr 6 1862

4.  Benjamin Franklin Odom

 [Odom.ged]

Benjamin resided in Rose Hill,  Clarke Co., Al.  He enlisted in the 18th

AL Inf. on July 26,1861. On Christmas Day, the same year, he was admitted

to the hospital in Mobile.  By New Year's, he was released and returned

to duty.  In July of 1862, he got sick again; and was recouperating in

Covington Co.  Sometime prior to May of 1865, he was a POW in Lee

Hospital, Lauderdale, MS. He was parolled from there on May 14th.

Hi Bill, Thank you for answering my emails so promptly..and yes, I have been to your web page..that is where

I got your email address. I am interested in the Odom-Harrelson connection. As you know, my ggrandfather,

Daniel Taylor Chisum married Sarah Caroline Odom..daughter of Isaac and Lucy Blocker. Daniel was raised

in the Harrelson household after Mary Ann and Elijah Harrelson married..probably about 1855. Daniel had a

half-sister;Rebecca Caroline, who married a Worley. His other sisters were Sara(probably married T. J.

Green), Elizabeth, and Eliza who was born in 1875...I am fairly certain that Eliza is the "Lizer" Odom who is in

the Foreman's funeral home records for 1938-1939 and I think, she is listed as married to G.W. Odom on the

1910 Covington County census..it gives her age as 34..which would make her birthdateis the same as the

age as Elijah and Mary Ann's youngest child. Please check the records of Foreman's youself and then, look at

the 1910 Covington census..and see if you agree. Donna Chisum Fountain  >From: Bill Odom  >To: Donna

Bill, thank you for the files on the Harrelsons and the Chisums..for some reason your email got sent to my

junk mail folder and I just read them..The Harrelson file is incomplete as to all of Jonathan Harrelson's

children..there is a new file done by a lady from Texas that is more complete..with Elijah listed..he is also on

the Covington county census in 1850 at trackingyourroots..Elijah and Mary Harrelson had the following

children: Daniel(Mary Ann and Hugh Chisholm's son) born Dec. 25,1850..married Sarah Caroline Odom,

Rebecca Caroline..born Oct. 1858..married..John Clinton Worley,Sarah Harrelson(who I believe, married T.J.

Green)born 1863, Elizabeth Harrelson,..born1864..,George E.M. Harrelson..born 1866..married Tensure

Harrelson, Elijah Russell Harrelson born Jan.10,1869..married Mary Helms..and ELIZA HARRELSON..born

1875 I believe that Eliza is the "Lizer" Odom ..recorded in the Foreman funeral home records at

trackingyourroots.com This is the information: Mrs Lizer Odom..21 July 1938/2:00p.m. buried July 22,1938 at

11a.m. Father listed as Eliga Harrelson..It gives the husband's name as D. Odom..but I believe her husband

was the G.W. Odom(son of Benjamin Odom) listed on the 1910 Covington County census..On the Odom

family tree, it lists her last name as Harrison..but I believe that is a mistake..I think she was Eliza Harrelson

Odom..if you have documentation to dispute my theory I would like to see it.I know that G.W. and Eliza had at

least seven children and that some of their descendents have a family Bible or records..the two youngest

ones on the 1910 census were Grover and Dozier. Thank You, Donna Chisum Fountain

Hey there... I noticed you have Daniel I. Chisum as being married to Sarah Caroline Odom. Daniel was a

Daniel T. Chisum. I will send you my source... I have his original homesteader's deed signed by Grover

Cleveland. Too, I have a copy of his death record... I obtained that from the Andalusia library (was a funeral

home record). I've also got a copy of the obituary in the newspaper in Andalusia. My Uncle Raymond Chisum

said the T. stood for "Taylor." I was wondering where Hugh Chisholm and Mary Ann got the middle name

Taylor from (Mary Ann was married to Hugh Chisholm before she married Elijah Harrelson.)  Emoch

Chisum's middle name is Huey after "Hugh"  Donie's real name is Rydona... found this on a census in the

Andalusia Library.  Do you have any Harrelson pictures? Do you know who might have the Harrelson family

Bible?

7.  William Allen Odom

 [Odom.ged]

The 1900 Alabama Census list the following in Daleville Precinct of Dale County:

Dwelling 96 Daleville Precinct

OdemAmanda9/185346

Martha7/187425

Jesse7/187623

Wily7/187822

Lizzie10/188019

Marvin8/18909

Note the spelling of ODOM. Also some of the other data is incorrect. 'Wily' is Jonathan Wesley and Martha is

Aunt Mattie as we all knew her. William Allen had passed away by this time.

7S.  Amanda Luvenia Ann Adams

 [Odom.ged]

The Old ODOM family Bible lists a birth date of 26 Sept 1848.  The new ODOM family Bible lists a birth date

of 18 Oct 1845. The 1850 Census of Coffee Co. AL shows her to be 2  years old. This goes with the 1848

date. The 1900 Census of Dale County gives an age that would have her born in 1853

8.  Isaac Wilson Odom Jr

 [NewGeorgia.FTW]

Obie Jane Wiggins (Washie Odom Wiggins'  youngest daughter) recalls and writes about  her grandfather

Wilson Odom  playing a guitar and died of leg cancer for which there was no pain relievers (RX then).  They

tore sheets, made bandages and boiled the rags to sterlize them.  Obie Jane recalls his intense pain,

strummed a guitar and was told he drank (always).  At the end he probably needed that drink!

8S.  Jane Elizabeth Taylor

 [NewGeorgia.FTW]

See note on her son Rufus.  Jane (Taylor) Odom lived with Rufus and his wife Lily except at the end of her

life she went to Aunt Annie's house where she died.  She was tiny, thin and had jet black hair.  Family

believed granddaughter Wilma (sometimes spelled Wilmer) inherited her jet black hair from Jane Taylor

Odom, although Wilma's hair was white when she died and Jane Taylor Odom's hair was still black when she

died.

According to Ray Wiggins (Washie Odom's son) Jane Taylor had a sister they call Fronie that married an

Ethridge or a Frazier.  Jane also had a brother called "Lee."  He could be the Leroy as listed as her brother.

He had 3 children:  Wash Taylor/Ranse Taylor/Lonnie Taylor

Thank you so much for your gracious invitation to the family reunion in

Dave's grandfathers has been kept such a secret and we have no idea

why.  He

is thrilled that I have been able to "dig up"  this much information.

Your

Hi Bill, it was nice to hear from you so quickly. I didn't know a lot until I visited your sight, and I will be signing

the quest book. We have been trying to track down my dad's family and find out our heritage from both my

father's sides. It has been many years since I have seen anyone up until November of last year when finally

we tracked down my Aunt Betty and my cousins whom I use to stay with as a kid. The last time I remember

seeing anyone till then I was 14, that was 30+ years ago, but I did remember them and only hoped they were

still in the same place that I remember, and they were. We had started a couple years ago visiting my fathers

grave at Jehu cemetary in Wewahitchka, Fl, this is where my Grandmother Mary Alice Mclendon Odom 7/3/

1894 - 3/3/1980, Grandfather William Austin, my father Arlin E Odom 7/17/1924 - 3/31/2000, and now my

uncle Bennie (not Benjamin) as I know are all buried in a family plot. We did take pictures of the gravesite

and I will send them to you if you want. It was great to see my Aunt Betty Boyd and Uncle Stow, who still live

in Port St. Joe, Fl. and my cousins, Vickie, BrookAnn, and Tony, Patsy had passed many years ago. I did talk

with Uncle Marlin on the phone while at my Aunt Betty's.

Also my cousin Peggy whose husband Charles just passed away in Feb. and Beverly whose email address is

bevpitts@aol.com </ym/Compose?To=bevpitts@aol.com> and I think she can fill you in with a lot of info. My

Aunt Beatrice Cordell Strange has also passed away which was Arlin's sister. My father Arlin E. Odom was

married before my mother to Margaritte (not sure of this spelling or her last name), in Mississippi, from what I

have been told there is one daughter still in Mississippi, a son William who also just passed away last year.

My father's second wife who is my mother is Martha D. Odom (Droscz was her maiden name) whom they had

2 children, Patricia A. (me), and Arlin E. Odom, Jr. who lives in Toledo, Ohio as well. I would love to find out

as much information as I can, not only on my Grandfather's side but on my Grandmother's side, the

Mclendon's as we were told that we are Cherekee from her side. Maybe you can help with that too. My

husband (Paul Toth) and I have 2 children, Kristin and Jeffrey. My father did marry a third time to a woman

named Ruby who as I know still lives in Panama City, Fl. and as I know they had no children.

I had heard that my grandfather had stabbed and killed a man from both my father and my Aunt, but didn't

know his name change until last year when visiting my Aunt that his original name was Jessie Monroe, I don't

know when but probably will never know that.

You have done a lot of work gathering information and you've done an exceptional job, I for one am greatly

that my husband found your sight and that we have learned so much and was able to contact you. I am going

to contact Sandy too.

WJ always carried a pocket watch which he set with the Millville Paper Mill whistle. During the grave side

service when the preacher was saying "Ashes to ashes, dust to dust" the mill whistle sounded 4 pm. Johnny

) died around the age of 18 years old.

59S.  Jesse Emanuel Carter

 [NewGeorgia.FTW]

Family notations from Geo Ray Wiggins are difficult to understand the relationship and spelling appears to

be different in some cases. Understand Lula and Mann Carter had 4 boys and 4 girls, yet Ray Wiggins notes

seem to indicate more children.

Annie was second wife to Jim Clark of Dozier, Alabma.  He was a farmer, had a sister named Mary and he

also had serveral children.  Lowell (son ?) restored some homes.  One was literally in Aunt Annie's yard and

he fathered 5 children with Annie.

Bill, I sent a message after one of the hurricanes hit in your area, but didn't hear back so didn't know if you

were still in Florida or not. We've had two bad years of hurricanes. Hopefully, this year will be better for us in

Florida and elsewhere on the Gulf Coast.

I was looking at the Odom website again today because an individual in Texas who is married to a Glenda

Clark was wanting some information on the Clarks. I told him he might want to visit your website and its links

because he might accidentally find some info on William E. Clark's family, his wife's grandfather.

I saw the info on James Henry Clark where someone said "It is believed that Fred was a son from Jim Clark's

first marriage. Uncle Fred was Jim and Annie Elizabeth's son. Pa Clark (as we referred to him) had 9 children

by his first wife, Mary Antoinette Merrill. Their names are Jacob Jerry (Jake) Clark, Leona Nora Clark Raley,

James Abner Clark, William John Clark, Perry Solomon Clark, Joseph Daniel Clark, Roland Hampton Clark,

Sara Margaret Clark Dozier Baker, and an infant who died at birth.

I see you didn't receive much info from my cousins when I asked them to provide the information in 2004 (I

think). I am going to try to work on it. This time, I'll ask that they send it to me. I'll put it together and perhaps

some make a link to Annie Elizabeth's family. Not sure how to do that but I'll work on it. For those who are still

living, we just put the name and DOB? I don't know if Ennis has gathered any more information or not, but I'll

check with him.

Following from Gloria Reisig Oct 12, 1999

Hi Bill,

Know about that catching up...I just got back from

Germany but since I have great weather, food and

sight-seeing, I will not complain.

The one glaring correction that needs to be made on the

ODOM FAMILY PAGE is daughter of Georgia W. ("washie")

Odom and George W. Wiggins...her name should be changed

from Obie Jame to OBIE JANE.  She was named about her

grandmother, Jane Taylor.

I am unable to pull up THIRD  GENERATION, No. 41 Georgia

Washington Odom.  Remember that most of this paragraph

was incorrect.  As far as I know, she was NEVER referred

to as Annie since she had a sister named Annie...she

married Jim Clark.  She was known as either Aunt Georgia

or "Washie"...her tombstone has "Washie" O. Wiggins.

Georgia was born in 30 Sep 1879 possibly in Crenshaw

County, AL.  She died 14 Dec 1944 in New Orleans, LA. and

buried in Bethel Cemetery, Babbie, AL, Covington County,

AL.

For information purposes, I verbally have the info that

Georgia was born in Crenshaw County but have not verified

either Crenshaw of Covington County as yet.

Additionally, this cemetery is located on the highway

between Opp, AL and Andalusia, AL.and the old address

used to be Rt 3, Andalusia, AL until Babbie Community got

their own Post Office a few years ago.

Both Georgia, and her husband were members of the Bethel

Primitive Baptist Church.  The church records are still

around but I do not have them.

Do you dates of who each of Georgia's 4 children married

or their spouses birthdays...date they died?  If so, here

they are and in order of their birth:

CLYDIA ESTELL WIGGINS b. Dec 16, 1908, m. Houston Isiah

Hester b. Oct 28, 1906 d.July 22, 1966 and buried at Red

Level, AL.

 GEORGE RAY WIGGINS b. Oct 12, 1910, d. Dec 24, 1987

buried at Bethel Cemetery, Babbie, AL m. Orene Avant

 WILMA LEE WIGGINS b. Nov 4, 1912 d. May 28, 1987 m. Sep

1932 in Gretna, La. to James Franklin Cade b. Jan 24,

1907 and d. Oct 4, 1975. Both Wilma and James are buried

at Beulah Cemetery located between Opp, AL and Florala,

AL.

ALFORD WIGGINS b. Dec 3, 1913 buried at Bethel Cemetery

Another infant son died at birth and they did not name

him.

 OBIE JANE WIGGINS b. Aug 24, 1918 m. Jesse J. Grabert b.

Jan 25, 1918 in New Orleans, LA.

Maybe more than you need but it is family info that needs

to go someplace.  Good thing I have retired!  This is a

full time job if one will let it!!!!

Thanks for the corrections as I want to send Obie Jane a

copy of the Odoms and sure would like her name spelled

correctly.  Also, will send Ray Wiggins widow Orene a

copy for their family.

Was checking on the Wiggins activities in the Civil War

and the Muster Roll for Thomas Wiggins (Uncle to George

W. Wiggins) was 54 and in Company A Covington County as

of 8/27/1864 which is the same company that Isaac W. Odom

(age 59) was in!!! interesting!!! looks like the Odom/

Wiggin families knew each other!  This is great fun when

you locate something or someone in your family....I love

it but it is time consuming.  Believe I may have found my

ggrand-father James Cade today!  Hope it checks out for

sure!!! the Cade family is a hard one to locate!

Bear with me...I am still learning but I will get there!

61S.  George Washington Wiggins

 [NewGeorgia.FTW]

George Washington Wiggins was married twice.

First marriage:  Isabella Merril and they had 9 children.

Second marriage:  Georgia "Washie" Odom and they had 5 children.  Infant "Alfred" died and raised only the

4 remaining children.  They are  buried at Bethel Cemetery (Babbie Community - Opp/Andalusia Highway)

along with his mother/father (Nancy Ann Hudson 4/7/1821 and Simean Wiggins 10/23/1863) as well as

buried with his great-grandparents:  Mary Bedingfield b: 9/11/1792 and Byrd Hudson b: 09/08/01792.

George Wiggins and Jim Clark married sisters both times.

First marriage according to his youngest son Bura, his father George Wiggins married Elizabeth (Isabella?)

Merrill.  Second time, George married  Washie Odom and Jim Clark married Annie Odom.

Between his first and second marriages, Geo W. Wiggins had fifty grandchildren.

62.  James Henry Odom

 [NewGeorgia.FTW]

Uncle Jim wore work tennis shoes (no custom made shoes then) because he had 6 toes and never had

dates.

He was single, had black curley hair and handsome.

63.  Willie L Odom

 [NewGeorgia.FTW]

Uncle Willie married Mattie Owens who was  2 years older than him and he never knew it until after her

death.  They were a nice, happy family.  He was a stocky, handsome, snow white headed man and they had

6 or 8 children according to Obie Jane Wiggins (youngest daughter of Washie Odom), however, her brother

Ray said 7 children.

64.  John Rufus Odom

 [NewGeorgia.FTW]

Uncle Rufus married Lily ____________, always sick and pale and died early - 6or 8 children.

Quote per Obie Jane Wiggins Grabert:  "Grandma always lived with him and his huge family.  Grandma

always wanted to live there.  She was tiny, thin and had jet black hair and spent her life sitting in a straight

chair beside the fire doing the family mending and she wore high laced inter-changeable (left & right) shoes.

She never recognized any of us since I could remember-age 5 or 6)).  "You're so pretty but who are you?"

But she never complained - not once.    Your mother (referring to her sister Wilma/my mother) inherited that

trait.  I recall her dying (and being sick).  Aunt Annie had taken her up to Dozier to her home and Moma

(Washie Odom Wiggins) went for 2 or 3 weeks to help her.  Grandma, she had shrunk so tiny, Aunt Annie

could lift her up into that high feaather bed.  She died when I was 14, so that'd been 1933 at age 84, hair still

coal back and was buried dressed all in white.  I know Edward Woodham went with me and I think Orene

(Avant) went with Ray.  Not being emotionally attached at all, we went on out with our dates with no 2nd

thought except for a full dating day.

Hi...I just found your homepage for the various families connected to Isaac Odom.

John Rufus Odom's first wife was not Lillie Elizabeth...Her name was Eli Indyana Elizabell Blocker. Her

Fathers name was " Doff" Blocker.

Given name was John Abram Randolf Blocker.

I was comforted in a strange way to see the photographs of the cemetary. I have been looking for it for some

time. Could you give me directions? I live in Enterprise, Alabama. The information I am providing comes from

my father Marion Wilson Odom ( bill)

He remembers the grandmothers and has interesting stories about John Rufus and his wives.

Id love to see all you have on this specific line.

Hi, Thankyou for updating the tree, here is all the information that my grandmother gave me. I will start with

my grandmother and her brothers,,,,,,Ruby Ceila-Ann McDaniel Latner, born March 15, 1911 married Alvin

Theodore Latner,,,she had two brothers Erbie Woodrow McDaniel he married Evelyn Duhig.,, his military

name was spelled Herbie and it is that way on his social security card....their youngest brother was William

Henry McDaniel, he married Martha Lorene Davis. William was named after his grandfather. Their father was

John Leonard McDaniel and their mother was Buena Mae Odom. Buena Mae Odom's mother was Annie

Taylor and father was Henry Odom she said it might be William Henry or James Henry she wasn't sure.

Buena Mae Odom's brothers and sister's are as listed: 1. Martha Adeline Camila Olivia Odom (nickname

Addie)...she married Benjamin Jackson 2. Benjamin Odom married Elizabeth Worley 3. Columbus Odom

(Uncle Lem)...married Lily Sasser 4. Green Daniel Odom...never married   This is all from her memory, I have

not verified this..the only other information I have is Henry Odom..she thinks it was either her grandpa's

brother of half brother she was not sure....and Wilse Odom he married Jane Taylor....that was her

grandmother's sister....the only other name she could remember was John Odom she was not sure if he was

a brother or half brother and she was not sure who he married. You have to remember this is all from her

memory.....and she is 92 now..although her memory seems to be well intact. She now lives in Umatilla

Florida...she moved there when she was a teenager and that is where she met my grandfather. She did say

something about the fact that one of her mother's cousin's lived in Apoka Florida,,John Odom.. and Marvin

and Eunice. She also said that her grandmother and grandfather were buried in Antioch Al.  Ruby Ceila-Ann

McDaniel and Alvin T. Latner had one child...Donald Alvin Latner,,,my father..he married Mary JoAnn Smith

and they had four kids...Donald Ray Latner (he married Connie Cable)...Mark Edward Latner (he married

Elizabeth Barron)...Timothy Dean Latner (he married Peggy Phillips)...Terri Sue Latner Bone..I married

Michael Lee Bone. If you want I can give you a list of all of our kids. I could also find out the dates of her

brothers births and deaths of Ruby's brothers. I know William Henry died last Nov.. I do have a few pictures I

will try to get them copied soon. Thankyou so much for the information. I am sending my grandmother a copy

of it. She will enjoy it greatly. If I can be of any more assistance please let me know. Sincerly  Terri Bone

Hi Cousin, Buna Mae Odom McDaniel was my grandmother.  She married John Leonard  Mcdaniel and they

moved to Umatilla FL in the late 1920's. Ruby Latner, their oldest child still lives there.  She is 93. Reading

your webpage sounded like Aunt Ruby talking about Alabama, as  most  of the names are familiar to me. I

remember her speaking of Aunt Addie  and  Uncle Ben, "Green" Dan'l and  Lessie Mae. I live in the

Birmingham area now.  I hope someday to go to the Odom  cemetary but haven't made it yet. I have more

information on my part of the family, if you want it. Thanks for the wonderful Website. Sandra Kaye McDaniel

84.  John Henry Etheridge

Last week, we went over to Memorial Cemetery, here in Montgomery to copy

tombstone info on some relatives. While ther we noticed a new grave with the

Etheridge name, near John H. and Bessie Etheridge. Well, I'd been told that

John H. had no children. Boy! was that wrong. He had 2 children. As you can

see he and Bessis had  a boy and a girl. His son  and daughter-in-law are

buried near John and Bessie. His grandson, Wayne lives at 1309 Red Oak Dr.

Brentwood, TN Ph.615-833-6989. I spoke with his wife Jamie and she gave me

what info she could and suggested I contact John H.'s daughter Faith who

still lives here in Montgomery. Evelyn Faith Etheridge is in her 80's  and I

plan on contacting her as soon as I get the chance, but it'll probably be a

couple of weeks.

Take Care,

Joan

stabbed it. Blood poison developed and the arm had to be removed. It was

buried in Good Hope Cemetery in Covington Co., AL.
